Should we go to Galveston??? HELP`

The wife and I were planning on going to Galveston two weekends from now to hang out, surf fish and fish from a pier or two(if I can find one). Now I have always gone to Port Aransas to fish and only been to Galveston to "party" a few times on Crystal Beach.
So will Ike be a problem in a few weeks? Can anyone point me in the right direction to find a good pier to do some late night fishing from? And should I go north or south or over to Crystal beach to surf fish?
Any and all help would be much appreciated by both of us!

    Thanks guys

I went to Galveston a few weeks ago and I didn't see any of my old favorite fishing piers in fishing condition but that is from the eastern side down past the seawall. I didn't make it to Port Aransas so I don't know how things are there. Galveston as a whole has bounced back pretty strong, though. The beaches look pretty good now that a lot of the sand has been restored and most every business (especially those that were protected by the seawall) are open.

      Is the surf "fishable"?

I think the only pier in the area is going to be at sea wolf park. You can google it too make sure that it is up, but all the piers in the surf are gone.
If sea wolf is up I hope you're friendly because you will have many neighbors with no other options.

The beach front piers are gone. Seawolf is open and there was one on Offats last year, haven't heard anything about it this year.

I just got back from Galveston, was down for 3 days and considering what has happened it is in great shape. The new pier at sea wolf park is open and alot of people were surf fishing in front of the sea wall, on the beachs to the west and at the pass.
We fished the jetty on The Texas Sun II and caught several reds to 40 inchs and sharks to 5 foot. The beachs seem to be in good shape.

Does the water still look like Chocolate Milk?

UUUGH, Now looking at Freeport. Are there any beaches there where I can back my truck up on the beach and surf fish? Where would be the best place? Thanks

Down at San Louis pass and various points inbetween there is beach access you can drive to the beach. Unfortunately on the Gal. side of the pass you can't drive the beach anymore because of all the houses built along the surf.
Ten years ago you could drive miles of the beach but now most is off limits to vehicles.

As far as I know you can still drive the beach on the west side of the pass. If you want to have some fun buy a $5 gig and take a cloeman latern and do some flounder gigging. There is a flat behind the pass on Galveston side where you can usually find a few flounder lying around.

Sea Wolf Park Pier is the only one open in the Galveston area.
